Clara "Belle" Knight's deck has been a gathering place for friends looking for a piece of old Southern gentility. "Tea time is a time to sit back, be tranquil and enjoy one's guests," Belle says. "My husband, Logan, and I wanted to create a place in which to continue the tradition of elegant tea."

After several years of looking, Belle and Logan found the perfect location for their new establishment. The property includes a freestanding house, built around 1940, sitting on an acre of land with shady trees. It's on Marvel Way, just down the street from meadowood Mall in Reno.

With loving hands, the house was renovated; new wiring and a kitchen were added. Outside they added draping vines, a new lawn, a beautiful arbor, a crisp picket fence and quaint playhouse.

Each day, Belle's Tea Cottage is serving tea from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Guests may enjoy a pot of tea with a scone or dessert as classical music plays lightly in the background.

"We gave careful thought to our selection of teas," Belle says, 'and decided to serve only Nevada teas from Davidson's Tea Company. Each day we offer a different selection including organic teas, children's tea, iced tea, and lemonade."

Lunch, featuring a choice of soups, quiche and salads, is served daily from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Belle's guests will be delighted by the whimsical touches throughout the country French-style cottage and grounds. "Our china and crystal are mismatched and we've hung tea cups from the chandeliers," Belle says. A baby grand piano sits in the front room and a lattice-adorned garden room leads outside through French doors. "T-Bear's Tea House with its teddy bear tea party in progress is a perfect backdrop for photographs."

Belle's Tea Cottage can accommodate up to 49 guests for private functions such as bridal or baby showers, weddings, father/daughter or mother/daughter lunches or teas, birthday parties, book clubs and receptions. Larger parties may be held in the garden. The facilities are ADA compliant.
